If I found out after my lease was signed that a neighbor is convicted sex offender, do I have any legal recourse for not being told beforehand?

Question Details:

While I was looking at an apartment I asked about the neighbors, agent says he does not know much about them only to find out that the guy in the next apartment is a convicted child pornographer. Turns out, when confronted about it the agent did know and said that he was not under any legal obligation to tell us beforehand.

State laws may be different. In California for example, the landlord is required by state law to give you a notice that there is a database available and a phone number you can call to find out about registered sex offenders. The landlord has no obligation to disclose actual names and addresses of these people. It is even murkier that your agent has such an obligation.
