Can you get into trouble if you find a gun but don't turn it in until in to police two months later?

Question Details:

I found a rifle in a vacant apartment about two months ago in the complex where I work. Today I offered it to the manager because she said she would like to have it. She was worried and called the police to see if it was OK to go ahead and keep it. The officer came and picked it up and took our names and such. Could I be in trouble for not turning it in sooner?

You're fortunate that Florida doesn't require a permit to own or possess a rifle, and if you're 18 and aren't a convicted felon, alcoholic or drug addict, you probably haven't broken any laws.  Under the circumstances, even if it turns out that the gun was stolen, somewhere along the line, I doubt you'd be prosecuted.

There is a possibility that the gun was used in a crime (most people don't forget their rifle, when they move), but the odds are very much against the chance that you could have enough other connection to that crime, to become a suspect now.
