Question: Insurance Law - Pennsylvania

Asked on 11/5/2009

How do I get a copy of an accident report?

My son was driving his friend's truck. A woman hit my son. No one was cited. Trying to get copy of accident report to see if anyone determined at fault. Truck owner, who is my son's friend, thought they had insurance, but due a reason, unknown to me, insurance was cancelled or he was dropped. Truck is thought to be totalled. My son is a PA licensed driver; his friend's truck is registered in NC. Since I'm in PA and accident and everyone else in NC, it's hard to know all the facts.

You'd need to contact the law enforcement agency that investigated the accident.  If someone got a ticket, that will be easy to figure out, otherwise, if your son doesn't remember, then you'll need to go by trial-and-error (this isn't hard, because the site of the accident limits the possibilities).  Once you find out where the report is, you'll be able to find out how to get a copy, which usually involves a small fee.
