I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  Given the amount of money you stole, the penalty is likely going to be a fine in the amount of $250-$500.  Indeed, the larcenby charge is the lowest charge there is based on the amount. I do not suggest hiring a lawyer if you plan to plead guilty.  if you do not want this charge on your record, then hire a lawyer as he may be able to get you a deal where the state will dismiss the charges if you do community service.
