Evicted without proper notice on a oral lease

Question Details:

I was evicted from a house I had been living in for 2.5 months without notice and just forced to get out. How would I go about suing the responsible party and would it be worth it financially?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  What whas the basis for the eviction- nonpayment of rent?  did the landlord serve you with a notice to quit?  I would need to know more facts here to help you.  If a lawyer is willing to take this case on a contingency fee basis (i.e. lawyer collects  1/3 of any award/settlement) then i think it is worth suing the landlord.  the landlord is not allowed to tell you to simply leave.  he must go through certain judicial procedures such as filing a notice to quit that explains the basis for evicting you as then must file an eviction action if you fail to leave.  i suggest meeting with a lawyer to discuss your case.  most lawyers will meet with you initially for free.
