Question Details: My fiance got suspended from work for taking a test the co just deemed mandatory. they refuse to have another class and refuse to pay for him to retake the test. He can't work until he passes the test. If he chooses to retake, he has to go over an hour away and pay out of pocket. The other thing, he uses glasses for reading and did not have them. He went in to get his schedule and they told him he had to take the test that day. He asked to get switched to the next day because of this and they refused. He had trouble seeing the print.
I don't know what his position is so it is tough to assess properly. However, if he has problems seeing, they should have given him a reasonable accomodation of allowing him to use his glasses. Based on your question, I don't see how it would have hurt the employer to wait for the next day for him to take the test (although I don't have all the facts). This is especially true if he had no notice of the test. I would consider making a written demand that he be given a chance to retake the test and that his suspension before that should be paid, since he was not accomodated.
