Employer stated that my step daughter's heath insurance was not the company's resonsibility.

Question Details: My employer informed me last night that it was not the company's responsibility to provide health insurance for my step daughter. I was told to contact her father and have him obtain health insurance. I was given 30 days to have this done. Can a company tell you who they will or will not cover?

Who is covered is a function of the insurance contract they have w/their health insurer. A step daughter has not been adopted; you do not have a legal relationship in that way with her. It may be the case that the health insurance will not cover step children and that they should be covered by the insurance of one of their parents. You certainly could call the insurer directly and pose the question to them for clarification.
