Doing a deferred prosecution lawyer of public defender?

Question Details: I have already decided to a defferred prosecution for my dui. I know I have been advised against it but I do have an alcohol problem and would like to seek treatment for it. My question is should I still hire and attorney or get a public defender or represent myself. How do I go about getting a public defender? And also should I start treatment before my court date? I just got my dui a week ago and don't want to start going if the court is going to deny my request for deferred.

If you can hire an attorney, I'd say do it.  If you can't afford a lawyer, you should have an opportunity to ask for a public defender at your first court appearance.

I'm not a Washington State attorney, and I don't know how the deferred prosecution system works there.  But I'd think that if you go ahead and start treatment, that might help you get deferred prosecution.
