Every state has what is known as a dog bite statute.  the statute basically says that the owner of the dog is laible to any person that it bites unless the the person that was bitten provoked or harassed the dog first. I suggest that you wait to see what the claim that is made is and whether the person hires a lawyer to file a lawsuit.  if the person does in fact hire a lawyer to sue you, you will need to forward all the documents to your homeowner's insurance company to cover the claim.  usually, dog bites are covered under the homeowner's policy unless it is an excluded act for which no coverage applies.  I would also contact your insurance agent to look into the policy to determine whether there is coverage.
