Does the hospital have the right to ask me for the baby delivery costs even if I was covered 100% under a maternity plan?
Question Details:
Delivery was on 8/23/08. Plan: flexible Blue Cross of MI with maternity; with deductible $1500. I already met the deductible at that time. The insurance saying one time they already paid and one time that the hospital submitted the wrong claim. Now the hospital lawyer asking me for the baby costs.
You need to call Blue Cross Blue Shield and find out exactly what went wrong. If the hospital submitted the incorrect claim information (code, etc.) it could be rectified possibly even now as long as they submitted the original claim in a timely manner. Advise the hospital's attorney, in writing, that you were covered for the delivery under Blue Cross policy number abc123 for the birth of your child on 8/23/08. That the hospital was given all the information as to the policy name and number prior to delivery and authorization to submit the claim to the insurance company. That you wish a detailed accounting of the charges he says you are responsible for as it is your understanding that you were fully covered and all deductibles met at the time of delivery.
