Does AOL retain instant messenger content?

Question Details: I have a free AOL instant messenger account. I log in through Trillian software. Does AOL keep content of the instant messages passed back and forth? If so, how do I get the content from AOL. Do I need a subpoena?

I don't believe they automatically keep them, I believe there is a mechanism for you to keep them yourself.  However, you would need to ask AOL through their help desk for the exact answer -- this is not the proper forum for it.

In terms of obtaining such items, if they do exist, yes, you would need a subpoena.
