Question Details: I have a free AOL instant messenger account. I log in through Trillian software. Does AOL keep content of the instant messages passed back and forth? If so, how do I get the content from AOL. Do I need a subpoena?
I don't believe they automatically keep them, I believe there is a mechanism for you to keep them yourself. However, you would need to ask AOL through their help desk for the exact answer -- this is not the proper forum for it.
In terms of obtaining such items, if they do exist, yes, you would need a subpoena.

Are you a lawyer?
