I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  Usually, you have 20 days from the judgment to appeal the decision.  while you are appealing the decision, the penalty is staying pending the outcome of the case.  the state may however, ask you to put up a bond of some kind in the meantime, but that is not generally required.  Appeals are complicated and should be handled by lawyers that know how to challege the legal errors committed by the trial court.  I suggest that you hire a lawyer to appeal the decision if you can afford one.
