There is no hard and fast rule that they must give you montly updates; some insurance companies, in my experience, do so, such as Mercury, but it just depends on which company you are dealing with.  I am assuming that you are asking about the insurance company for the defendant driver who injured you.  If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at actionlaw@yahoo.com

There is no state specifica rule that I am aware of that requires your carrier to provide you with month to month updates.  Most companies provide you with updates as a courtesy and to make you feel like you are important and they are looking after you.  Basically, they want you to keep them so that they continue to make money off of you.  Many insurance companies only give their insureds notices when there is as event.  Many personal injury cases are long and nothing really happend while the plaintiff is treating, and therefore, most companies provide updates when something such as a deposition happens.  You do not have any recourse for the company not calling you or writing you 1 time a month.
