Do I need permission from my PO to get married?

Question Details:

He is telling me that I might be in trouble however I cannot find anything in my supervision conditions saying that I needed to ask first. He knew I was engaged and my old PO told me that in order to get my transfer to another state accepted I had to get married. Can I get violated for this? My husband is not an ex-con or on probation. I have been doing very well and am trying to get to go live with my husband and go to school.

You do not need permission from your probation officer to get married. However, you most likely need permission from him or her to relocate to another county and/or state. Before you move out of county or out of state, you need to obtain written permission from your current probation officer to do so.

Most likely you will need to first get assigned another probation officer in another county and state. I suggest that you consult with a criminal defense attorney about your situation sooner rather than later so that there are no last minute surprises for you.
