Do I have to share the rent money with my siblings?

Question Details: My dad moved from California to Texas in 2003, leaving me with the house. My dad passed away in 2008. He did not leave a will. I packed up and relocated to TX because he left behind my sister who was still in high school. The house in CA was vacant for a year. I paid the property taxes and all of the other bills connected with the house, in addition to my dads medical bills. I was able to rent out the house in July of 2009. Are my siblings entitled to a share of the rent? I plan to move back to CA next year once my younger completes high school.

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  if the house was in your dad's name when he passed away, the you and your sibligs are now the joint owners and are each entitled to the rental income.  I suggest that you hire a lawyer to resolve this now as opposed to later as it will cause serious family problems that you do not want or need.  if the house was solely given to you, then you do not need to share the rent.
