Do I have recourse against a garage for work that appears to have lead to engine failure?
Question Details:
I had a coolant leak on my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix. I had a garage fix the coolant leak in January but while they fixed the leak they also said they needed to change the intake manifold gaskets. About three weeks ago the engine developed a serious knock. The same garage says the engine needs to be replaced. The 3.8L engine in the car had a TSB regarding a part they should have replaced as it typically results in engine failure but it's not technically a recall. I'm no mechanic but I would think they should have known and asked me to send extra $$ to avoid this issue. What are my options?

You have a 97 pontiac. Really what is the blue book value? If the cost of the engine is more than the worth of the car, not a whole lot.
If the car is totaled and you truly believe it is the garage's fault, then you would get the lesser of the totaled value (blue book value) or repair cost.
