The short answer to your question is that it depends.  Some states have "persistent offender" laws that require more severe penalties for individual convicted of the same crime over and over.  In other states, or, depending on the misdemeanor, it is possible that you could be convicted of the same misdemeanor many times (over three) without being charged with a felony.  In any event, if you have been charged with any crime, including a misdemeanor, I suggest that you hire an attorney in the interest of obtaining a favorable resolution.  Good luck.
