Discrimination?

Question Details:

My employer has missed my reviews, promised me wage increases, all of which Ihave never seen. I know that others with the same time on the job as me received higher increases and on time reviews. While I have better recorded work performance. With all that being said, I am a male, it's not in the employee rules or company rule for my hair to be cut. My boss has asked me (because he can't require me) to cut my hair repeatedly. And I have not cut it. I am the only male with long hair. I feel that I'm being treated unfairly due to my long hair. Is this discrimination?

Employment and Labor Law Answers

Unless you have a written employment contract (or unless the company has violated published rules or policies of its own, that have been written in a way that you can use them as a contract, which is very rare), there's nothing you can do about this, because you're an employee "at will."  Unless there's illegal discrimination, the company doesn't need a reason for anything, up to and including termination.

This might be discrimination, but it's not illegal.  That's only when the discrimination is based on age, race, religion, or one of a very few similar things.
