How can I check whether or not my child's dad stole her lawsuit settlement payment?

Question Details:

My daughter was hit by a car 5 years ago, and received a structured settlement. Her dad has all the paperwork on this, though I signed on the lawsuit agreement 3 years ago. Her first payment should have come by now, but her dad says it did not. Is it possible that it did come and her dad stole it, she was a minor when this happened but is 18 now. How can I find this out? She suffered terribly and her life was forever changed; she deserves what is hers.

Auto Accidents Law Answers

I hope you can remember, or find out, the lawyer or law firm that represented your daughter in the case.  That would probably be the easiest way to get the settlement information you'd need to follow up on this.  Otherwise, you'd have to go to the courthouse, ask to see the records there;  if you take this route, bring along proof of the fact that you're your daughter's mother, because sometimes records from lawsuits involving minors are not made available to people without a legitimate interest.
