I am not admitted in Florida.  You want to take the thousand dollars as a set off for your share of the total cost of the braces, correct?  What does your divorce decree or divorce agreement say?  It may in fact speak to this issue.  If it does not you do you get the benefit it another way?  Tax write off?  Look and see.  Although it may seem reasonable you should call you attorney from your divorce and ask if this was covered.
