Question Details: Is it legal for a collection agency to charge interest plus collection charges on collection of medical bills? It seems that the company that has turned the account over to collections would be paying them.

I am a lawyer in CT and pracrtice in this area of the law.  A collection agency may charge you late fees and interest if the contract with the medical provide indicates that it is entitled to these fees.  i suggest looking at the invoices sent by the medical provider to determine whether the fees are indicated in the invoice.  if there ar, then the collection agency may collect these.
