Question Details: In 2002 (in the state of NJ) I was arrested for possesion of marijunana. I was driving and had weed on me. When I got pulled over I was honest with the cop. I was only charged with possession which later got exponged. However, now I am having trouble with my car insurance. Everytime I get a quote its high because of that. How do the insurance companies even know and if it was exponged why and how is it even showing up? And, is their anything I can do or someone I can contact to get this matter delt with.
Here is a link to a guide on the procedures to expunge a criminal record in New Jersey: http://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/10557_expunge_kit.pdf. Make sure that you followed all the procedures properly. You should contact the court that granted the expungement and explain the situation. If you had an attorney do your expungement, contact him/her.
