Question Details: I have been advised that I am well above my means and I need to purchase a car. How will this help me and can it be used against me?

That depends on the staus of any Chapter 13 filing. Have you filed yet? Is the court aware of any equity you have in your assets? I am not sure what you mean by "well above my means"...if you are top heavy on debt already the court would need to know if you will have the necessary funds to purchase the vehicle; or do you intend to finance? Permission of the Chapter 13 trustee may be necessary to effect a purchase.
