Case taking a long time getting into court

Question Details: 21 months ago the wife took a bad fall in local store and cause us many financial problems. It was 16 months late we were called in to give our deposition and I know we have a good case with all our witness's. Our Problem is we can't seem to get a court date because our lawyer want's us to have a mediation but the mediator has been in the hospital so much, says my lawyer that this has not happen yet and now it's been 21 months going on and very concerned about my lawyer putting us into a situation where we have no choice but to keep him on after the statute of limitations if we want another.
