Question Details: we got a notice of cancellation notice on 8/31/09 but the insurance company took a payment from us on 9/22/09. we did not have any other notices of cancellation. I had a car accident on 10/15/09 but the insurance company said that the insurance had lapse and my accident was not covered. is there anything I can do about this?
Unfortunately if the insurance lapsed, the accident on October 15 would not be covered. However, it would be advisable to contact the insurance company and request an accounting to determine why the payment accepted by the insurance company on September 22 did not reinstate the policy. If you are dissatisfied with the response from the insurance company, contact the Insurance Commissioner of California and appeal the denial of coverage.
