Yes, this requirement is perfectly permissible. The fact is that an employer can set the terms and conditions of employment much as it sees fit; this includes mandating employee's attire when arriving/departing the workplace. So unless you have an employment cotract or union agreement that prohibits such a requirement or it is the result of some form of legally actionable discrimination, I'm afraid that you will have to "suit up".
