Can you remove an eviction from you record?
Question Details:
I want to know if there is a legal way to either remove or seal an eviction on my record/background check and, if so, what are the guidelines and how do I go about it?
I am assuming that you mean from your credit report, correct? If the eviction was due to non-payment of rent it is in you best interest to contact your old landlord and either negotiate a one time payment (maybe even for a lesser amount) or paying on an installment basis. Your ex landlord is the only one thatcan remove the eviction so you can negotiate that along with payment. He or she may not want to remove it until the balance is paid off. If it is paid off and the landlord refuses to remove it - or if it is a mistake - thenyou can write a dispute letter to the credit bureaus. This gives the creditor a set amount of time to respond or the bureaus have to remove the reporting. Good luck.
