Can you get a court appointed attorney before you go to court?
Question Details:
My girlfriend and I have split up; she served me with a restraining order to get our son from me. Can she take him out of state without my permission? The hearing is next week. What happens if she doesn't show up? How would I go about getting visitation with him? Is it possible to get a court appointed attorney before you go to court ?
Although I do not practice law in the State of North Carolina, here are my initial impressions. First, your question is really a family law question, not a criminal defense question. Court appointed attorneys are usually only appointed at your first court date, and usually are only appointed for criminal, rather than family/civil matters. Therefore, it is important that you consult with a local family law attorney as soon as possible. Good luck.

Are you a lawyer?
