Can you ask for a continuation with out an attorney present?

Question Details:

I have a court date in one day and I can't get in touch with my attorney in time. I would like to know if it is possible to ask for a continuation of my case to give my attorney time to investigate my case with out his presence? I live in Illinois in Cook county.

DUI / DWI Law Answers

As the party to the case it is your right to appear without your attorney present. However I would urge you to attempt to contact the attorney in order to ensure all parties are on the same page. if it is simply impossible explain the circumstances to the court and you can request a continuation. Good luck and thank you for coming to our site. Feel free to post again!
