Question Details: my mom was sick for a while, thinking she had the flu. 4 days before she passed, she was at the hospital because her back was in so much pain, and the pain was overwhelming her body. The doctor diagnoised her with arthritis in her back, gave her shots of cortosone and sent ther home. I beleive her records indicate that she had heart disease. Question: Should the Dr. have ruled out ANY problems with her heart by giving her tests and maybe ex-rays before diagnosing her? She deterioated Friday, and Saturday before passing Sunday night. Thinking all along she had the flu.
I think this is a long shot. I would think the hospital took your mom's temperature when she went in, even though it was for her back. If she had been getting ready to die of the flu, she would have been running enough of a fever that they would have picked up on it. You'd have to have a medical malpractice law firm review the case, for a reliable opinion about whether to pursue this.
If you're thinking about medical malpractice, they aren't simple cases. In almost every one, both sides have expert doctors, testifying about what a doctor should do in similar cases -- one, of course, says why the doctor didn't follow the "standard of care," and the other one says yes he did.
