Can't get Driver's lisence back until I pay $2750 in damages from a wreck 4 1/2 years ago- Can they do this? What's the statute of limit. for this?
Question Details: She was speeding and cliped the front end and back of my friends truck. He had fictitious plates, and no insurance- I had no idea. It was her fault but I got the ticket. My wife and I have already paid almost $500 for the tickets in collections, had the necessary documents notarized and sent them so my lisence could be reinstated. Then they say I owe damages and I have to pay or I will never have it again. No one contacted me, no court date notices, and they can't even tell me what exactly I damaged! The lady was complaining that I was her second wreck that week- So why do I pay?
There are certain specific charges that allow the DMV to revoke your licene until restitution has been paid. If this is properly beeing done, the only way I have been able to deal with this situation is to contact the poeple owed the money and work something out with them for payments and they can file a notice with the Court saying you have made appropriate arrangements - which will let you get your license back. I have also heard that after 7 years you are okay, but I can find no legal authority for that.
