Can our 23 yr old daughter who lives with us have her friends in our home if we make the house rules she cannot have anyonein our home?

Question Details: My husband and I rent an apt. in CA, our 23 yr old daughter lives with us. We realize if we would like her to move we would need to give her an eviction notice. BUT does she have any rights while living with us to have anyone she wants in our home?We have made a rule that she cannot have any friends in our home. (due to many bad situations) She has never paid rent or contributed to any bill in the home. She has actually never paid for a piece of food, a Qtip etc. We do not want her friends in and around our property. What is the law regarding her rights.

The good news is, she has no rights other than what you give her--she is your guest, and you set the rules for your guests. Tenants have some rights, because they pay rent, but guests do not.

The bad news is, if she doesn't follow your rules, your only recourse may be to ask her to leave, which you may do at will (since as a guest, she has no rights in or to the place). There is no other way to enforce your rules.
