Can my son get an extension or exception from the full-time student requirement if a medical issue is keeping him from attending school for a semester?

Question Details:

My son had major surgery at 17 yrs old. They removed his gall bladder, spleen, appendix and pancreas after 8 years of chronic pancreatitis. He must take expensive enzymes with everything he eats to digest and absorb any nutrients from food. Without them he will starve and die from malnutrition. He now suffers from **** addiction after 8 years of morphine pain pumps during 33 hospitalizations. He needs to take a semester or longer off for rehab, but cannot afford to loose his student status and thereby his coverage.

You should contact the health insurance company to see if he will lose coverage.  You should also speak to a health insurance agent to see if there is another type of policy available for him.
