Can my landlord keep my deposit if he is angry at me? We have already moved out but we still owe him for November and Dec. Can I just not pay Dec.?

Question Details: My landlord told me that I have to pay $200 for a vinyl floor in our laundry room that was installed improperly. He says that its afloating floor so it doesn't require any glue. I sent him the installation instructions for the type of vinyl he is calling it and he is pretty mad now. He said he can put whatever he wants in there and it doesn't matter if it rips for the next people. I think he does this in all of his rental homes and then goes in and puts new vinyl down right before the next renter moves in.

Leaving anger aside, if have already moved out but you had a lease through December, you need to pay him for both months. The landlord may apply your security deposit vs. unpaid rent.

Or if you damaged a floor in the rental space--and the damage was not caused simply by normal wear annd tear--then a security deposit may be applied against that damange, too.
