How can I sue someone out-of-state?

Question Details:

I want to know if I can sue over state lines? I don't want small claims court because it is worth more than $5,000. This lady has my grandmother's wedding ring and she lives in OR and I am here in NV. What do I need to do to get it back?

You can absolutely sue across state lines. You would bring the lawsuit the same way that you would bring a lawsuit against someone who resides in state. In fact, if the amount were large enough (more than $50k, I believe), you'd have the option of suing in federal court as well as in state court.

If it's worthwhile suing--either the amount is large enough to  make it worth retaining an attorney, or the ring has emotional/sentimental value--get an attorney will be able to start the processs for you. It's not more remarkable than suing someone in state.
