Can I request a court hearing and traffic school for a traffic ticket ($1270.) without having to pay the fine?

Question Details: I went through a red light, almost causing an accident. It was 1:00 am. The reason I "missed seeing the light was that just across the intersection 5 police cars were parked with their lights flashing. There were 3 cars on my driver's side and 2 police cars on the other side. I was coming towards them driving slowly to figure out what was happening. Because of all their lights - I totally missed seeing the traffic light, which kind of blended in with the scene. I'm a senior citizen and can not afford to pay a $1270. ticket. Any advice how to proceed?

Unfortunately, the court is not going to care that you were distracted by the police.  We cannot render legal advice to you as we don't serve as your legal counsel and do not know your driving history, criminal history, etc.

Some tickets do not qualify for traffic school.  Review your ticket to see if you qualify for traffic school.  Or you can request a hearing and see if alternate sentencing can be given, like community service and a smaller fine or no fine.
