Can I receive compensation from my employer who does not give me any meal time breaks pursuant to state law?
Question Details:
I work 8 hours a day and receive 8 hours of pay. I work 24 hours a week. I do not receive any meal breaks but my pay is not deducted for this. I am an "at will" employee and not in the hotel industry. Can I sue my employer for compensation for not proving me meal breaks? And, if so, could you recommend an attorney for who will work on a contingency basis?
This is likely a Wage Act violation. Illinois employers are required to provide employees who work a shift of longer than 7 1/2 hours a 20 minute meal break no later than 5 hours after the beginning of the shift.
