Can I get unemployment benefits if I quit my job to relocate with my husband?
Question Details:
I got a job working for a bank on 08/31/09; my husband found out on 09/24/09 that his job would be relocating him to Alabama. I informed my job of this ahead of time although the relocation would not take place until 11/12/09. I moved to AL but filed for unemployment in AZ, where I worked. Will I be eligible for unemployment benefits if I quit my job to relocate with spouse since he is our main source of income. I could not get transfer because company I worked for is not in Alabama.
What you are asking is if Arizona has what they call a "trailing spouse" provision in their unemployment law to allow you to collect benefits from the bank in Arizona. And I believe that the answer is "yes". Arizona is one of the states that does allow you to collect. But remember: you applied in Alabama, which I do not think ha the same doctrine so you may get caught up in some red tape. Be persistent. And do a little of your own calling if you need to to the Arizona Unemployment people. Take names and numbers. Good luck.
