Can I get out of a contract with DirecTV?

Question Details: In December, 2008, I switched from Dish Network to DirecTV through my phone company & agreed to an 18-month contract. Everything was fine until I tried to record programs on my DVR. It wouldn't work with their equipment. I requested a service tech 4 times & it never worked right. I finally gave up & canceled their service. They immediately billed me for $250 + $50 for the last service call. My acct has gone to collection. Do I have to pay this bill? Also, can the phone company cut off my phone because of this? Thanks very much.

It's possible, but court costs and attorney fees would probably be more than the debt is worth.  Not paying it hurts your credit score.

This communication does not begin the attorney/client relationship.
