Can I get back a non-refundable deposit for a wedding venue if the owners consistently failed to communicate with us forcing us to cancel our wedding at their location?

Question Details:

I signed a contract and put down a non-refundable deposit of $400 for a wedding venue. In the last 3 months, I've tried making contact with them to no avail to obtain details for my other service providers. 20 emails went unanswered, 10 phone calls not returned, and 1 personal visit and they were closed during regular business hours. We cancelled our contract due to non-communication. Can we get our deposit back?
