Can I get a child support order if the father signed the birth certificate?

Question Details:

My daughter's dad has never been around; she is 7 now. Can I get a child support order without having to do a DNA test if he signed and did all the papers when I was having her in the hospital? If I have to do a DNA test it's fine, but do I have to?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  I suggest that you seek a child support order from the court using the birth certificate as proof that this man is the father.  if he wants to challege it, let him.  He will have the burden to prove he should not have to pay once you provide the birth certificate.
