I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. You have the right to challenge your speeding ticket. I suggest that you plead not guilty and send it in. when your court date comes up you should attend court and speak tot he state's atty on your own (unless you can afford a lawyer). explain to the state's atty why you were travelling a little fast and let him/her know that you would like t resolve the ticket by paying a charitable contribution in incharge for a nolle. this will avoid you having points on your license and your insurance rates increasing. Police officer's lie and do not always do what they say. you can never count on them. If the state will not agree to a charitable donation, ask them to reduce the ticket.
