I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  If you do not want to be responsible for this person, you should hire them as an indep. contractor.  You will have a contract for a set price (hourly or fixed) and specify the scope of the work.

There are a number of ways to minimize your exposure to liability for the negligent actions of another individual performing services for your business.   However, at a minimum you will need a written contract with that person.

You need to see an attorney to discuss the circumstances and services of this individual so that you can minimize your liability in the event of any incident.

Contact my office if you would like legal assistance.
