Can I Delegate Executor Tasks?

Question Details: My father wants me to be executor of his estate after his death. I no longer talk to my sisters, and don't want this responsibility, but I don't want to refuse his request. Can I accept being executor, and after his death delegate most tasks to a lawyer (his lawyer, actually) under my supervision? My father lives in Florida.

Yes, you can do this.  It's not at all unusual.

In fact, I'd say this would be your best approach to administering your father's estate in any case.  But with potentially hostile beneficiaries (some of the nastiest lawsuits I've ever seen were between siblings, including estate battles), I think it's pretty much essential for you to have a lawyer.  And hiring whoever was handling your father's work is an excellent idea, because this attorney will be "up to speed" from the start.  Just make sure you keep in touch with your father about his attorney, in case he makes a change.
