Can health ins. be terminated a week after being fired from a job with no notification or offer for Cobra?

Question Details: My friends employer fired her and the ins. is saying her coverage termed a week later. She's received no notice or offer to continue coverage through Cobra. Is this legal?

COBRA is a legal right under federal law. It's not up to the company or the insurer to deny it. Your friend should demand her COBRA paperwork from the former employer and the insurer immediately, in writing; they have to provide her the option.
