Can a motel employer pay housekeepers by the room rather than hourly?

Under the laws of all states in this country if an employer is willing to pay a housekeeper per "piece" work such as by the room for cleaning as opposed to an hourly wage and the employee agrees to such, then such is allowed. There is nothing illegal about that.
