Can a sole proprietor hire himself as an employee?
Question Details:
I want to do this to remain a union employee and have union benefits. I am a janitor. I want to take over the contract to clean the building I have been working in for many years.
You can probably be your own employee and pay applicable taxes, but you can also accomplish your goal by incorporating and being an employee of your corporation. You can elect subchapter S status for the corporation. Talk to your tax advisor.
