DUI / DWI Law Answers

Some states will not supply a public defender unless the State is seeking jail time.  For most DUI cases the prosecutor (including those in Colorado) want you to serve at least some time in jail or prison, so that is typically not a factor.   However you must meet income eligibility requirements.  If you don't, than consider hiring an attorney.  A DUI triggers both criminal and civil cases.  You really should have legal representation on this.
