Can a non-profit rescind a scholarship given to a student due to personal reasons.

Question Details: In June 2009 our daughter received a Scholarship from a non-profit organization. In October she received a letter stating the the Scholarship was being rescinded due to her dishonesty and poor leadership based on the fact that she chose not to run the homework center as a freshmen in college, but continued to look for employment on campus that worked around her school schedule. Which was not a requirement for the scholarships. Our daughter has been the face of this organization for over 3 years and the Executive Director is punishing her for leaving.

You need to check out the terms under which the scholarship is awarded. If it is subject to the Director's discretion (or the discretion of his staff, who report to him), then it is legal, even if unfair, who him to exercise his discretion in withdrawing the scholarship.
