Question Details:

The hotel claims that the elevator was intentionally broken; this is not true. They say they have it on video tape, but will not show it. Is this legal?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  If you break the hotel's property it may hold you personally responsible, especially if they have proof.  the hotel however, is not going to show you the video unless they have too.  i suggest that you do nothing and do not respond to the hotel. force the hotel to file a lawsuit against you.  if they do, then you should hire a lawyer to represent you.  the lawyer, once the suit is filed, may force the hotel to produce the tape so that you can determine whether the hotel has sufficient evidence to win.  Until suit is filed, just sit tight.
